Annual Sports Day

“Victory is in the quality of competition and not in the final score.” – Mike Marshall

Sports day is a platform to showcase the talent and efforts put in by the students & their coaches to make it a successful event. Playing a sport is not only about competition, it is about having fun, being physically active, learning techniques, performing coordinated tasks, enhancing motor-skills and most importantly to give children an opportunity to display their self-confidence, patience, zeal and sportsmanship.

Red Roses Public School, Palam Vihar organized its Annual Sports Day programme, GATI, on the 17th of November 2019, a day filled with excitement, thrills, shrills and cheers. The grandeur of this event was truly unmatched, and it became quite a spectacle to behold for all those witnessing it.

For the success of any grand undertaking, God’s grace is of utmost importance. To that end, God’s blessings were invoked with the lovely rendition by the choir to pay salutations to the Lord Almighty followed by the arrival of the mascot named Chetak – the symbol of power and bravery. The programme commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest Mr. Ian Dev-Roberts (Head Teacher at Frodsham Manor House Primary School, UK) along with the Guest of Honour Ms. Angharad Carmody (Science Head, FMHPS) who were warmly welcomed with a sapling and a token of love i.e. shield of friendship between RRPS & FMHPS followed by the National Anthems of India & UK. The introductory speech was given by our Principal mam, welcoming one and all present, presenting the School’s annual report & wishing all the students good luck for the day ahead. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour lit the ceremonial torch followed by an impressive and well synchronized March Past by all the four Houses of the school. Leading the March was our Head Boy, Vardaan Sharma, followed by the four houses lead by their respective Captains. Then the Head Girl, Ritika Shah along with all the students, took Oath to participate in GATI with full vigour & enthusiasm while upholding the highest levels of ethics. The Athletic Meet was declared open by the Chief Guest, following which, the House Captains lit the Cauldron.

In line with our Hon’ble PM’s Fit India Movement initiative, the event started with some splendid field drills in the form of skating, yoga, taekwondo, archery, aerobics, gymnastics, parachute dance & balloon dance. A conscious effort was also made to promote & play some of India’s favourite street games like Pithu, Gulli Danda, Kanche, Chupan Chupayi etc. to make children aware of the games their previous generations have played. They sprayed on the field a riot of hue, vibrancy and radiance.

The zealous parents, gathered in large numbers, constantly applauded the enthusiastic young sports stars. The school playground rimmed with flags and balloons reverberating with the sound of cheers, made everyone’s day.

The drills were followed by the highly anticipated races wherein the verve & vigour of the participants was on full display. It was a delight to see the excitement with which the students challenged themselves & each other to attempt a variety of races. Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. Students of classes Nursery to 12 competed in events including hockey dribbling race, relays, sack race, obstacle race and skipping race.

The young achievers were awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals by the hon’ble Guests, who highly appreciated each sports star and applauded the visionary element of the school which nurtures and develops their potential in the sports field. Daisy house won the trophy for the best March Past and Jasmine House emerged as House Champions.

Towards the end, our Principal mam thanked all the teachers & children for their untiring efforts & declared a two-day holiday for everyone to take some rest. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish.
